WeavaWeava is a highlighter for web pages and PDFs with folders, shared folders for teams and automatic citations, available as a Chrome extension and an iOS app. Its site says it is free and always will be, with a premium tier.
GlaspGlasp is a social highlighter for web pages, PDFs and YouTube with AI summaries and chat, on Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox, iOS and Android. Its pricing page lists Free, Pro at $12.50 a month or $150 a year, and Unlimited at $30 a month or $360 a year.
Web HighlightsWeb Highlights highlights websites and PDFs with notes and tags, exports to Notion and Obsidian, runs local AI summaries and works without sign-up, on Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Its site describes a free tier with unlimited highlights and paid Premium and Ultimate plans with 7-day trials.

HypothesisHypothesis is a social annotation platform for web pages, PDFs, video and eTexts, built for higher education with Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle and D2L integrations, groups and threaded discussion; its client is open source on GitHub. Pricing is on a separate page we could not read.

DiigoDiigo combines bookmarks, tags, highlights, sticky notes, an outliner and groups, with archived web pages as a premium feature. Its home page cites more than 9 million users; prices are on a separate plans page.
Raindrop.ioRaindrop.io is a bookmark manager with unlimited bookmarks, collections and highlights on the free plan; Pro adds full-text search, a web archive of permanent copies, reminders, annotations, daily backups and 10 GB of uploads a month, billed monthly or yearly with about 20% off yearly. Prices were not shown on the pages we could read.

Readwise ReaderReadwise syncs highlights from many sources with a daily review, and its Full plan includes Reader, a read-it-later app with RSS. Prices on its site: Lite $5.59 a month billed annually; Full $9.99 a month billed annually or $12.99 monthly; 30-day trial; 50% student discount on request.
InstapaperInstapaper saves articles to read later on any device, free; Premium at $5.99 a month or $59.99 a year adds full-text search, unlimited notes, text-to-speech and Kindle delivery.
Pocket (closed July 2025)Mozilla shut Pocket down on 8 July 2025 after 17 years; exports were available until 8 October 2025, when the data was deleted. People searching for a Pocket alternative want somewhere to save articles and, often, to keep the highlights they made.
Omnivore (closed November 2024)Omnivore, the open-source read-it-later app, shut its hosted service on 15 November 2024 after its team joined ElevenLabs; the code remains on GitHub for self-hosting.

Notion Web ClipperThe Notion Web Clipper saves any web page into a Notion workspace from a Chrome extension or the Notion mobile app.
Obsidian Web ClipperObsidian Web Clipper is free and open source: it saves pages as Markdown files in a local vault, with highlights, templates and support for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Arc, Orion and Vivaldi.
Evernote Web ClipperEvernote's Web Clipper captures pages, articles, PDFs and screenshots into Evernote notebooks, with highlights and text annotations, and is described as compatible with all major browsers; the feature page does not state which plan it needs.

ZoteroZotero is the free, open-source reference manager: it saves references and PDFs from the browser with the Zotero Connector, formats thousands of citation styles in Word and LibreOffice, reads RSS feeds, and syncs files with storage plans of 300 MB free, 2 GB for $20 a year, 6 GB for $60 a year and unlimited for $120 a year.

VisualpingVisualping monitors web pages for changes and alerts you. Its pricing page lists a free plan of 5 pages checked every 60 minutes, Personal plans from $14 a month (10 pages every 15 minutes) and Business plans from $140 a month, with yearly discounts.
Distill.ioDistill monitors pages from the browser and the cloud. Its pricing page lists a free plan of 25 monitors (5 in the cloud, 6-hour minimum interval), Starter at $15 a month for 50 monitors every 10 minutes, Professional at $35 for 150 every 5 minutes and Flexi from $80, with 20% off yearly.
changedetection.iochangedetection.io is an open-source page monitor you can self-host; its hosted plan is $8.99 a month for up to 5,000 URLs with re-checks from about 5 minutes and more than 85 notification types.
