Last updated 6 September 2026. This policy explains what data Vite Research collects, why, who sees it, and what you can do about it. It is written in plain English; the short version is that your research is yours, private by default, and never sold.
On this page
Vite Research is a product of Foreranger Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (“we”, “us”). We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy.
Questions about privacy: [email protected]. Account help: [email protected].
This policy covers three things: the website at viteresearch.com, including the Journal Feeds directory; the web app at app.viteresearch.com; and the Vite Research browser extension for Chrome and Firefox.
It does not cover the websites you visit, save or highlight while using Vite Research. Those sites have their own policies.
Your e-mail address and password (stored as a hash, never in clear text), a display name if you add one, your plan and subscription status, and a customer reference from our payment provider.
Everything you put into Vite Research: highlights and the text you selected, your comments and tags, notes, projects and collections, files and images you upload, the feeds you follow and your read and bookmark marks, the pages you save to the Library, including the stored copy of each page and its hash, the citations you generate, messages you post in a space, and anything you choose to publish on a public source page.
Your IP address, browser and device type, extension version, the addresses of pages on which you use the extension, request logs with timestamps, and error reports.
E-mails you send us, and our replies.
Payments are handled by Stripe. We receive the status of your subscription and a customer reference. We never receive or store your card number.
On the website we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are used. It loads only after you accept the cookie banner. See the section on cookies.
The extension only works in Chrome and Firefox and asks for the “tabs” and “storage” permissions and access to our own servers at api.viteresearch.com.
We use your data only for these purposes, on these legal grounds:
We do not use your content to train artificial-intelligence models, and Vite Research has no such features.
When you save a page to your Library, or ask us to monitor it, our servers fetch that page from its publisher and keep a copy for you, with a hash so you can verify it later. That copy is private to you unless you share it or publish it as a public source page.
Monitored pages are fetched again on the schedule you choose. You are responsible for saving only content you are allowed to keep. Rights holders who believe a stored copy should be removed can write to [email protected].
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Some of our service providers process data outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. Where they do, we rely on adequacy decisions or on standard contractual clauses and the UK addendum, and on the providers’ own security commitments.
All traffic between your browser, the extension and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored hashed. Access to production systems is limited to the people who need it. Saved pages carry a hash so changes can be detected. No method of storage or transmission is perfect; if you believe your account has been compromised, write to [email protected] at once.
Under UK and EU data-protection law you have the right to:
To use any of these rights, write to [email protected]. We answer within one month. If you live elsewhere, for example in California, you have similar rights and can use the same address.
Only what is strictly necessary: a token that keeps you signed in and settings such as your preferences, stored in your browser’s local storage. No advertising cookies.
Strictly necessary cookies for the site to work, plus, if you allow it, Google Analytics 4 to measure how the site is used. Analytics run only after you click Accept in the cookie banner; if you click Reject, or make no choice, no analytics cookie is set. You can change your choice at any time through the Cookie settings link in the footer, or by blocking cookies in your browser.
Vite Research is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.
When we change this policy we publish the new version here with a new date. If a change matters to you, for example a new purpose for your data, we tell you by e-mail or in the app before it takes effect.
